Poplar Bathroom Renovations

One of my first jobs as an "official" interior designer was helping 2 of my dearest friends renovate the bathrooms in their first home. They had just purchased a fun and large 1960's ranch that had 2 very old and outdated bathrooms. They knew when purchasing the house that they would like to tackle the bathrooms first.

We had the challenge of narrow and oddly laid out floor plans in both bathrooms. We also wanted to be mindful of the budget, as this was a starter home for them. We decided to focus most of the budget and changes to the master bathroom and salvage what we could in the guest bathroom.

So for the guest bathroom we had to rip out all the tile, which went half way up the wall, replaced lights, new tile on the floors and shower surround, vanity, paint and glazed the awesome cast iron tub. In total, that bathroom cost about $5,000.

For the master, we made a new footprint all together. It originally was almost identical to the guest bathroom, just with 2 large closets in weird places. We tore out all the tile, tub, vanity...everything. Then added a large walk in shower, with subway tile to the ceiling. For a fun accent, we did small blue tiles for the shower floor and accent shelves. To save some money, we used a large grey tile for the floors that were on sale and an Ikea vanity plus top.

It turned out just as my friends wanted! And I couldn't have been happier. In the end, this bathroom cost around $10,000.
